New York City's first Trader Joe's is opening at 9 a.m. on March 17th -- St. Patrick's Day. Located in the Palladium building at 142 East 14th Street, it's only a block from Food Emporium and Whole Foods.
The Palladium is a college dorm, and yes -- they will be selling "2 Buck Chuck." Due to New York City Liquor laws, there is a separate "Wine Store" located on the other side of the Palladium entrace (the main store will sell beer). A worker on the site said they might even offer delivery in Manhattan (is this a first for Trader Joe's?). The combined size of both stores will be between 12,000 and 15,000 square feet, according to a store employee.
The main store will be open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, and the Wine Store will be open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday (12 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday).
Here's the location of the store (map courtesy Google Maps):
Here's the sign announcing the opening:

Finally! I will not have to go to Scarsale or LI. Congratulations. I'll get there as soon as I can.

Fabulous! I was there this afternoon. While the line to check out was ridiculously long, it moved very quickly. And, as crowded as it was, the atmosphere was great! I just moved to NYC in October, and oh how I've missed Trader Joe's. My life is once again complete with the opening of the new Union Square TJ's. Now they just need to open a store in Brooklyn...

Hey now!
I'm in Cambridge, MA and just found out that TJs discontinued the "Peanut Butter joe joe's" (due to low sales and replaced it with a choc/vanilla stripe cookie!!!) Is this storewide? They are by far the best sweet there. The PB Oreos are PB Creme which does not even come close. I cannot believe I'm saying this but I want to form a petition to get these back! If you know anything please email me at SOMERCAMB at YAHOO or my SPAM email. cheers

Paul:
Go to your local Trader Joes and ask a crew member to email the buyer directly. If enough customers make their voice heard, discontinued products will sometimes return. I myself wrote the buyer about the Gardeners Handcream-- discontinued last month-- I wrote lamenting it was the only lotion with an SPF-- lo and behold, a few weeks later it came back.
I don't want to get your hopes up, but TJ's is really good about listening to their customers.

thanks MOJO. i have had my local TJs email them...i found some stores that still have them since they are even LESS popular at those stores, but i don't want to buy too many that they will go rancid etc. if i had a freezer i'd be all set. how did you find the email for the buyer? aren't those secrets kept away from the public?

I am moving to Brooklyn from Arcadia, Ca (next door to Monrovia where trader Joes is headquartered...) June 9th and I can't tell you how excited I am that there's gonna be a Trader Joe's. 5/6 stops on the subway and I'm there. Thank God! A piece of home that makes me happy.

I've been a regular at this store since they opened. I love this place! Such great food, such low prices, such nice people.
If only they'd open a store in Brooklyn ...

My family and I just moved to Florida after living in NY for over 30 years. We have been such fans of TJ's that when we left we stocked up on several of our favorite products. Now we have run out and are in desperate need of certain things. Do u think that TJ's will ship out some goods??

If our bodies are not strong, our spirit to do things will certainly be quite dull. And at the same time, we are lack of energy (ies) to study. Diseases will only attack the weak, but not the strong.Exercise helps us (to) strengthen our bodies and avoid disease. It also teaches us cooperation, for most exercise is played by team.

Today the quality of our natural environment has become an important issue. The world population is rising so quickly that the world has become too crowded.
