The Atlanta Business Chronicle is reporting that Trader Joe's is looking to open stores in the Atlanta area:
Alison Mochizuki, national publicity manager for Trader Joe's, confirmed that the company is planning to enter metro Atlanta, but declined to provide any more information. "We're excited to be coming to Atlanta," she said.
My family and I just moved to Acworth from Sandy Springs. Prior to that we lived in Pasadena, CA and shopped almost exclusively at Trader Joe's. I've been in despair for 1.5 years since we moved to GA. I want Trader Joe's here and as convenient as possible. Trader Joe's would flourish here! And, I for one, would be beyond the moon to have my favorite store back! Acworth/Kennesaw/Marietta/Woodstock even would be awesome to bring a Trader Joe's. The areas further from Atlanta are growing at light speed and in desperate need of affordable, healthy, distinctive shopping opportunities. Trader Joe's fits the bill. Can't wait to see you in GA!

We're excited to have you so close, but Athens would bow at the alter of your tasty goodness if you would open one here! We have an empty Winn-Dixie store that would be perfect, too!!

Any word on Trader Joe's taking over the Winn Dixie stores in South Florida???
That would be sweeeeet...

I agree with the folks who think the corner of Ponce de Leon and Highland would be a perfect location. Many of my friends and I were big fans, and regular shopers, at Market One before it went under. With more reasonable prices, I think Trader Joe's and the nighborhood around that spot would be a natural fit.

I am also very excited to have Trader Joe's coming to Atlanta. It's been too long (~4 years, when I moved from CA) to not have shopped there. It would definitely be cool if they placed the store on Ponce in the VA Highlands area or in Decatur, or maybe even in that Edgewood Retail District.

I'd love to see one on the south side, but, as with anything good, I definitely won't hold my breath. Having a TJs an hour away (in Midtown) is going to be a lot better than 10+ hours (the D.C. area)!

I second having one on the southside (Peachtree City?). I live 60 miles south of Atlanta and even if it was in Kennesaw I'd go at least once a month. One of the few things I miss since I moved to Georgia from Arizona 4 years ago is have TJs close by.

I heard they are opening a Trader Joes in Brookhaven, part of the new 400 million dollar Sembler project??

I visited the R.O. Michigan location last month to sweet talk the guys behind the desk into telling me where the Atlanta locations would be. They said there would be (3). They were vague about it, but said..... Marietta, mid-town and Norcross. They also told me that the company would need at least 3 stores to support building a warehouse to serve the stores and that after those initial openings to look for more stores in area states..... probably N.C. and S.C.

This Gwinnett daily post article confirms the Norcross location at PeachTree Corners. I am so elated. I like many of you wrote Trader Joes and asked them to please come to Georgia. I wouldn't care where it will be located. I would travel from Lawrenceville like I do to go the Decatur's Farmer Market. But fortunately for us they did pick a Gwinnett County location. Not to far. And hopefully I wont have to wait four years like someone else posted. We just move from the Bay Area, Ca a little while ago. And we also have had Trader Joes care packages sent from my mom in Seattle. Plus we have picked up boxes of food when we visit my granma in D.C. So it is just nice to hear so many familiar stories and how there is a six degrees of seperation between the lives of so many who love TRADER JOES. Thank you Trade Joes for coming to the Atlanta area!!!

We're crossing our fingers that you'll be coming to the vacant shopping center in Midtown (where the Landmark theatre is)!!! There are tons of Trader Joe regulars (waiting for you to come to ATL) right within walking distance from VA highlands and midtown!!! Buckhead isnt too far either so youll get those folks' business as well! Midtown, Midtown!!! On 8th and Monroe!!!!

trader joes should be in-town. people who live out in the burbs dont deserve a TJ's. It will be in the highlands where it belongs or it will go out of business

People who think that people who live out in the burbs don't deserve a TJ's deserve to be trampled at the grand opening.

Charlotte close to bagging another high-end grocery
Charlotte Business Journal - July 7, 2006 by Ashley M. London
Another upscale grocer is eyeing Charlotte, which already has welcomed alternative chains Earth Fare, Home Economist and Whole Foods.
Monrovia, Calif.-based Trader Joe's wants to bring its selection of health foods, organic produce and $2 bottles of Charles Shaw wines to the Queen City.
"We are interested in Charlotte," says Alison Mochizuki, Trader Joe's spokeswoman. "There are a lot of foodies in your area."
She declines to be more specific on a timetable or on sites the company is scouting. Charlotte would be the company's first N.C. location.
Future development plans for the company call for continued national expansion and the ongoing development of new food items. More than 2,000 items offered in the stores are unique to the Trader Joe's label.
Trader Joe's Co. began in 1958 as a chain of convenience stores in Southern California called Pronto Markets. In 1967, Pronto Markets became Trader Joe's. The company has since evolved into a national chain with more than 254 stores in 20 states.

I drove past the Midtown Promenade yesterday, and they have a sign up: "Trader Joe's, Coming Soon!" It is ridiculous how excited I am for this store. Maybe the proliferation of TJ's will bring the intown folks and the suburbanites together ;) Free yourselves from Walmart, my suburbian brethren!

Oh my God! I have missed my Encinitas, California Trader Joe's something fierce. This is great news, Atlanta! Chimichurri sauce. Pizza dough. Prepared lunches that don't break the bank. Yes!

So, the million dollar question is...do we have opening dates for any of these Atlanta locations?
Posted by: cannotwait | August 29, 2006 at 11:06 AM
Roswell - Sept 25th
Midtown - Oct 23rd
But don't tell anyone :)
