The Park Ridge Herald-Advocate believes that the "specialty grocey store" that is interested in leasing space is Trader Joe's. The unnamed company is waiting for final approval from the overseas office (Trader Joe's is owned by the German company Aldi).
The grocery store is believed to be Trader Joe's. The city earlier this year approved a change to its liquor ordinance in order to accomodate Trader Joe's, which requires a larger sales space for alcoholic beverages.
Trader Joe's is always a 50-50 gamble for me. I've gotten some great stuff there, salmon steaks and other frozen entrees, roasted red pepper spread, chicken sausages, salsas and sauces. I especially love their green decaffinated Earl Grey tea. And of course, the wines.
However - it's the only store from which I've ever bought a bottle of rancid olive oil, twice, at 2 different stores. Their crab bisque is inedible. Why and how would they ruin that? Salty brown glop with chicken fat and turkey listed in the ingredients.
In spite of their swearing that they LOVE to hear from their customers, TJ's doesn't have an email address in the year 2005, although I'm positive a survey of their clientele would probably show about 75% have daily access to email.
They do an excellent job on some things, but could better monitor their stores. I visit about once a month, and always find something moldy on the shelf (Arlington Heights and Northbrook Illinois stores) - moldy fresh tomato salsa, moldy maki, moldy sausages, moldy cheese that's not supposed to be moldy. Someone's not minding the store, or making sure the refrigerator cases work properly. I'm surprised the Board of Health hasn't clamped down on them. Their produce is almost always overpriced, some items that should be refrigerated aren't. As a result, it's often withered and beat up looking. They need to know when to cut their losses and stop stocking items no one will buy. I wish I were emailing this note to them directly.
The above hasn't stopped me from shopping there, tho. It's always fun to shop there. I'm glad there's a TJ's.

TJ's is Very S L O W to update their ways of doing business. They only installed UPC scanners about two years ago! Before that they were still putting price tags on everything and ringing up everything manually on the register. It was like going back to the 1960's every time, where you had those long-term employees who were really "skilled" and could ring up each item in a nanosecond...

I work in a store and take care of a customer who has the cutest bags from your store and I must come to your store that I just located on the internet to check it out and get those adorable bags, which are great advertising. She said they were only a $1 or so and the store sounds sooooo unique, hope the bags are there. E-mail me back to let me know please. Thank you.

I did find a box with a decent amount of quick-cooking brown rice in it. I used the microwave directions to prepare a couple cups. By adding the brown rice and some extra salt, pepper and vinegar to the salad, I made dinner.
