Trader Joe's on the west coast just switched peanut butter suppliers. The old stuff was my favorite. ( I ate it EVERY day!) Corporate says they can't tell me the name of the company who makes it and I can't find one with the same nutritional profile anywhere. Can you help?
Does anyone have information about the old supplier or if there is a similar product on the market?
Trader Joe's used to sell Cat Treats with real chicken flavor (yellow cap/label, white jar)- scan #0013 0585 or #6061-E3. Please let me know if you carry this product in any other Trader Joe's. This is the only treat my "Princess" Kahlua will eat. I will try another cat treat provided it has the same ingredients.

Corporate entertains phone calls about discontinued products?

I would love to know why their lovely TJ's facewash disappeared and where it went :(

I'm devastated about the peanut butter. I like most of TJ's products, but that is the one that shone for me. I add my plea for more information. The replacement is junk that separates even in the fridge and isn't organic.

I am also upset about the change in the peanut butter at Trader Joe's. I was told by a store clerk that the new jar was "new packaging" and was the same. I trusted her and bought one. As soon as I opened it I could tell the aroma was different. After stirring, it was very runny and I had to search for the chunks of peanuts. It also has more calories. It didn't taste like real peanuts like the old version which was made from unblanched peanuts. I called the corporate office and was told that they had a problem with the old vendor with consistent quality. The new vendor is working on their grinding techniques and something about the peanuts having more oil content because of the crop. I returned the yucky jar and bought the remaining six jars of the old formula. I don't plan on buying any more of the new formula. I also wrote the corporate office, and they said they would send my comments to their buyer, and that the opinions of their customers are important. Maybe if enough people write them, they will bring back the good stuff.
Also, today I just found out that they discontinued their Hot Bell Pepper Relish. The corporate office claims it was a slow seller and couldn't give me the name of the manufacturer. I asked them if the manufacturer makes the product for another store under another label and they said it was made exclusively for Trader Joe's. I would love to find this elsewhere too.

The new peanut butter on the west coast is awful! Has anybody had any luck in finding the original supplier? What a shame to change the best tasting product at the best price!

Couldn't agree more with all the comments about the change in peanut butter!! My family went through almost a jar a week, and we haven't found anything to truly replace it. We've switched to Laura Scudders organic crunchy peanut butter, which we can get at Ralph's, but it's not as good.
The moment I saw the new jar, I knew it was a different manufacturer. A clerk in the Long Beach store told me that as TJ's grows some of their manufacturers can't keep up with the increasing demand. Thus the demise of this peanut butter supplier!! I, too, would love to know the name of the manufacturer.

I agree that the new peanut butter is awful. It is runny, but mine does not separate, so I cannot pour off excess oil like I did with the old product. I saw a new store brand natural peanut butter at Ralphs last week that looks like the old TJ's, but I have not tried it yet. On the east coast, Smucker's makes a natural peanut butter similar to TJ's old product.

I loved the TJ's refrigerated tahini and I just found out that it has been discontinued. Can anyone suggest an alternative? Thanks.

I have gone to three stores, in the So. Bay area(Redondo Beach, Torrance, Manhattan Beach), to purchase dog food for my older pet(pet food for seniors, purple can). I fear that this product has been discontinued in these stores. This is about the only food my dog is interested in eating.
Please advise me of any stores that continue to sell this product. Thanks so much, ET

Hi. You used to carry the ZenSoy soy puddings. They were delicious and organic and gluten free. What happened? Why don't you carry them any more? Please let me know where I can find them. Chocolate was my favorite, but if you go to their website www.zensoy.com they have a new swirl that looks fabulous! Thank you for your help

Another TJ customer upset about the peanut butter change. I lived off the stuff. Bring it back!

During 2005 Trader Joe's discontinued two products that I grew to rely on. One was their fat-free cheddar cheese, the only item of its kind that was NOT taste-free as well as fat-free.
My other item is Ricola Breath Mints, packaged in small boxes. The packaging and its being sugar-free is what makes it for me. The small boxes fit nicely in a little cubby-hole in my car. The alternative plastic baggy is not as convenient. It is great to be able to reach for a good tasting guilt free snack while driving.

The discontinued peanut butter was made by Sanfillipo & Sons in Illinois. I happened onto on article about them in a Chicago newspaper. Rumor has it that the replaced peanut butter is being dumped and that Sanfilipo might get the contract back. Please write TJs and demand this product. I LOVED the unblanched pb that Sanfilipo supplied. Let's get it back.

Oops, on further review, I spelled the name wrong...John B. Sanfilippo & Son is the correct name of the suppier of the good peanut butter.

Loved the original PB; sent dozens of patients to TJ's to buy it; very disappointed with the new stuff; ate jars and jars of the original; this new 'brand' doesn't come close. I hope they have gotten the message to go back to the original supplier.

Along with the peanut butter complaint,
I wish they would sell plain sunflower seed
butter. The one they sell has SUGAR in it!
That means you can't use it with lettuce,
sprouts, and tomatoes. Anyone who wants it
can add their own sweetener. Why restrict
us in this way?
Also, they had a fantastic low-fat Gouda.
No more. Now they carry few low-fat cheeses. That's bad news for obese Americans that lead the world in heart disease.

Does anyone know what company manufactured the oat bran flakes that Trader Joes has discontinued?
Posted by: Vicki | February 25, 2006 at 01:13 PM
The only thing the box has on it regarding a manufacturer is:
Dist. & Sold Exclusively By
Trader Joe's,
Monrovia, CA 91016
I use to buy 10 boxes at a time and if it doesn't come back, I am going to shrivel up and die!!

I miss the original peanut butter as I said in my original Sept. 29 posting. I tried their organic peanut butter, but it is starchy and gummy. I think I found a good one: Henry's Market brand peanut butter is really good. I did a side-by-side taste test with the new TJ's kind, and the Henry's didn't have that "oily" aroma that TJ's has, and, despite lower sodium, tastes like it has a little more salt. It has a fresh peanut taste and lower calories than TJ's. Until TJ's brings back their old stuff, this is a good substitute. Maybe we should tell TJ's, maybe competition will move them!

I want the bagged granola back! The strawberry-apple, regular, and pumpkin granola was all great (strawberry-apple, in particular, since it was no fat)! It was cheap too--lilke $1.59 for 16oz! TJ employees say it went into boxes but the only TJ granola is that Granny's brand but it's not the same! Its apple granola, for example, has icky walnuts, no strawberries, and fat. There are no regular and pumpkin granola flavors either.
PLEASE BRING BACK THE BAGGED GRANOLA!
